Substantive Areas of Involvement
The IDH believes that the human rights
problematic is indivisible, universal and interdependent in
character. Therefore, the IDH understands that coordination and
cooperation efforts amongst its various internal groups are
critical for the accomplishment of its institutional goals and
objectives.
With this in mind, the IDH is grouped as
follows:
Basic Human Rights
Group, which is in charge of
everything relating to the protection of an individual’s eight
fundamental rights: right to life, integrity and security of
person, liberty, due process of law, freedom of speech, freedom
of movement and residence, freedom of peaceful assembly and
association, and political rights.
Health, Social
Security and Nutrition Group,
which focuses on everything relating to the population’s ability
to access health care services, social security and a daily
nutritious diet. The Health, Social Security and Nutrition
Group places particular emphasis on society’s most vulnerable
groups both in urban and rural areas, which include infants,
children and adolescents, women in gestation and the country’s
poorest communities in general.
Education Group,
which focuses on the country’s alarming education problems
present at all levels of instruction for the purposes of making
policy recommendations geared toward the constant improvement of
the education system at large.
Economic Rights
Group, which has as its primary
duty verifying the honoring of all duties and obligations to
which the government of Peru has agreed to abide by in
accordance with the International Labor Organization’s norms and
conventions. These norms and conventions include, among other
things, adequate compensation and leisure, decent working
conditions, safety and cleanliness in the workplace; along with
all other work-related aspects prescribed by the International
Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
Last but not least,
this Group is also committed to a close following of the state
of the economy with particular focus on key development
indicators, the budget appropriations process, and the country’s
overall financial health.
Seminars and
Courses
Each one of the Groups mentioned above is charged with the duty
of developing activities relating to its substantive area of
involvement in the form of trainings, seminars and courses, as
well as with the issuing of reports and publications relating to
its area of expertise.
